I use WordPress for this blog and most of my other websites I currently have or had in the past. Consequently I’m seeking for WordPress themes 2020.
I actually love looking at new theme options. Especially great free themes.
I’m also a big fan of digital minimalism. So I am looking for quite minimal, sleek themes.
A couple of years ago I developed my own WordPress themes for whatever website or projects I needed one for. And that was great because I learned a lot about WordPress, about php, and generally about dynamic web design.
Nowadays I don’t really have the time to development own themes. So I stick to free themes I find around the web. And thus the hunt for free WordPress themes 2020 begins…
WordPress themes 2020
Just recently I updated a few of my sites to new themes, including this blog. And I found an awesome theme developer from Sweden who has quite a few great, free, sort of minimal, and well-built themes in his catalogue. That’s the reason for this post today.
My new theme
I actually used a few themes of his before. Without really checking more into it. But this time around I was really curious about finding a nice free theme by a cool developer. So I found Anders. I highly suggest you check him and his work out if you’re on the hunt for a new look, a new feel to your website or blog. As I said all of his themes are free, no hidden costs.
Of course, it is highly appreciated to donate a small amount to him and his great work, but you don’t have to. Everything is free. And with over 1.4 million downloads his themes are really popular as well. You’ll find him on his site as well as on WordPress.org or WordPress.com
What I like about the themes
My favorite free WordPress themes 2020
So now let’s dive into my 3 favorite free WordPress themes from Anders Noren. But, of course, please check out his other themes as well. He has 20 free themes so far. So I think there is something for (almost) everybody.
Number 1 has got to be his newest theme „Chaplin“. It is highly customisable, uses great new block features, and adds awesome visual effects & professionality to a free theme.
With this theme and a little time for modification you can create an eye-catching, professional, and practical theme for your blog, site, shop, anything really. So check it out. There is also a nice YouTube tutorial for this theme here.
I already talked about „Koji“ above. It’s the theme I use here. It is simple to use and understand, easy to modify, and looks very nice. Not as many features or modifications possible with this than with „Chaplin“ but good enough for a lot of blogs and sites. So please try it.
This is a really cool theme. It looks amazing, definitely better than most free themes out there. It has a minimal, but fun, and quirky vibe to it. It is also filled with images, so a great option for creative sites that use a lot of awesome pictures and artwork. Portfolio, photographer, etc. So if that’s your niche check this theme out.
Okay, as you might have guessed… I like Anders Noren’s designs. But I think rightfully so. It is sometimes pretty hard to find a great but free WordPress theme. And it becomes more and more difficult because most developers go the route of „freemium“. Meaning they’re offering their themes for free but only with limited capability or functionality. For more you need to pay. And while I fully understand that and totally support getting something for your great work, it is just to much for many people who just want to start a small blog, or portfolio, or else. And for all of those a resource like Anders‘ themes, that is completely free without limitations or freemium models is amazing.
And if you need a web hosting service for your new site read my last post here.
But I digress… If you’re interested I could give you a list of other themes I really like from different developers. So comment down below if you want to see that.
Until then, take care!
